January 24, 2008 WEEP Woman and Family Displaced

One of the WEEP ladies (Angeline) was displaced from her house. Some people took over all her possesion even her house and she was left with nothing. She sought refuge at her sister’s house but the same fate befall them. She was left out in the cold and joined others in the camp at a police station. This happened over the weekend and was reported by Mary this morning.

This is the decision we arrived at to save her from the suffering.
That she be housed in one of the rooms at the center.
We gave her 7 blankets from the store: one for each of the children and herself.
We gave out kshs 500 for food one day as we shall buy more food for all of them tomorrow.
Since we cannot be able to deliver the food to Mathare, we shall buy from Nakumatt thika road and they will collect individually from there. It’s risky for an outsider to venture into Mathare and we also don’t want to cause a scene while distributing the food. we are still looking for ways to do the same with Kibera ladies tomorrow.
The situation in Mathare is bad. The area around the center is not safe, and the ladies are not able to work. We hope security improves there.
